Yes, that’s the beauty of the month of April. We have two leagues beginning their playoffs. And if you’re a faithful blog reader you know that I already made my predictions about the NHL playoffs. Now it’s time for the NBA.
I know the series already started but there was only one game played in most series so that won’t be an issue. Although I would probably say that today I like NFL and MLB better, I still follow the NBA all season long and have a special place for it in my heart. After all it was the first league I started following, when I was just a little kid.
Anyway, let’s get down to business.
Indiana Pacers vs. Atlanta Hawks: Atlanta won the first game in one of the biggest upsets of the year. They are really pumped up for this series but I don’t think Indiana will continue to play this bad. I know they are not playing well since the end of the regular season, but I still think they’ll find their best game and win the series.
Chicago Bulls vs. Washington Wizards: The Bulls are currently the unluckiest team in the league. They lost Derek Rose for the second season in a row and their players keep getting hurt. Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer are playing great, but I’m not sure it’s enough to face a Washington team that’s very confident right now. Tough one but I think the Wizards will come through.
Toronto Raptors vs. Brooklyn Nets: After a rocky start, Jason Kidd gathered his players together and they started playing to their full potential. Veterans like Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett are playing well and they have also very good players like Deron Williams and Joe Johnson. Besides, they won a game in Toronto already. I don’t think the Nets will have problems here.
Miami Heat vs. Charlotte Bobcats: Probably the easiest of all predictions. Charlotte already managed a great feat getting here but that’s it. Miami are the current champions and they got James, Wade and Bosh. Miami in 4.
San Antonio Spurs vs. Dallas Mavericks: San Antonio has the best record in the league and an unbelievable coach. How did he manages to make a team with virtually unknown players and an ageing big 3 (Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili) play this good is anybody’s guess. Dallas is also a good team but the Spurs had a great comeback in the first game which will boost their confidence. Spurs go ahead.
Houston Rockets vs. Portland Trailblazers: Personally, I think this is the toughest of all playoff series. These teams are very even. Portland is a rather young team with some great players, not least Damian Lillard, rookie of the year last season and an All-Star player in 2014. Houston also has a good coach in Kevin Mchale, a player in an unbelievable season in James Hardin and a strong center in Dwight Howard. I’m going with the Rockets, but this one’s really, really, tough.
Los Angeles Clippers vs. Golden State Warriors: This series and OKC and Memphis are the only ones with two games already played. And they are both tied. With Griffin fouled out in the first game, things turned out easier to the Warriors. However, they were beaten to a pulp in the second losing by forty points. Stephon Curry is great and Mark Jackson turned out to be a brilliant coach but CP3, Griffin and Deandre Jordan will be too much for them. Clippers advance.
Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Memphis Grizzlies: I’m a huge Kevin Durant fan. I think his got potential to become a top 10 NBA player of all time. However, he’s no Michael Jordan (because nobody is) and he had a lot of trouble in the first game when double-teamed. Russell Westbrook is great but he is a bit of a lose canon and that can complicate things for Oklahoma. In the end of the first game, it was clear that Memphis figured out a way of playing against the Thunder. I’m going Oklahoma, but with absolute no conviction.
Okay, let’s review my picks: Pacers, Wizards, Nets and Heat in the Eastern Conference. Spurs, Rockets, Clippers and Thunder in the Western conference.
These playoffs are shaping up to be the best in recent years. Let’s watch carefully.
